The Food Exchange – Breakfast Bakes

This month’s theme for The Food Exchange was breakfast bakes. Breakfast is probably my favourite meal of the day and one of the things I miss about living in England is meeting friends for breakfast. Yes, I do it here too but I can’t completely get on board with cheese and cold meat for breakfast! I miss poached eggs on toast, bacon sandwiches, baked beans, eggs, pancakes!

Having said all that, there are some amazing German breakfast bakes which I love. Such as Rosinenschnecke (which directly translates as raisin snails!) and Nusszopf (nut plait). One of my other favourite breakfast bakes is Rosinen Brötchen (raisin rolls).

When I worked at the bakery making Rosinen Brötchen was one of my jobs. It was also my breakfast of choice while working there too! Having said that I have never made them at home, so I was excited when Greta sent me this challenge.

These bread rolls are really soft, white bread rolls which are enriched with butter and an egg and raisins throughout the dough. I find this best when they are warm out of the oven and don’t think they need anything with them. Tim is always pleased when I make something savoury or a bread bake, so he was really happy with this months challenge too! Thanks for the suggestion Greta!
