Annecy is my favourite place. Whenever we spend time there I feel so relaxed. It is 40km away from Geneva and sits on the shore of Lake Annecy. With the bright blue lake and the snow capped mountains, it is hard to imagine a more peaceful place. I realised how much I had fallen in love with this place when we took my mum for a surprise trip in February. I realised it was our fourth visit in 13 months…
Mum flew into Germany on a Saturday afternoon. We hired a car, picked her up from the airport and drove straight down to Annecy which is about a 5-hour drive for us. At this point, Mum thought she was just spending some time with us in our flat. As we approached the Swiss border we finally told her we were taking a tiny detour.
I am going to update my previous post about Annecy and things I would recommend to do and see. But I just wanted to share with you some photos from a lovely weekend away with Tim and Mum.
Mum had never been to Geneva before so we stopped for a few hours on our way home. 3 countries in 5 days, we hope you enjoyed your surprise Mum!

Then a few hours in Geneva…
I finally visited Annecy for the first time a week or so ago, since moving to Lyon six months ago. I can’t quite believe it took me six months to make the trip, but it was such a lovely little place (and also where one of my favourite French TV series was filmed). Really liked browsing the market and wandering round the lake in the fresh air – such a nice change from polluted city life!
It is such a beautiful place isn’t it Rosie! Really? What is the TV series called? I am trying to refresh my French at the moment, so it might help! I can imagine the change was lovely! Although Tim went to Lyon on a business trip recently and said it was a beautiful city! He is hoping to take me there at some point!
It really is – I can see why people get so excited about going there! I’ll be heading back in a month or so when my family come out to visit, so it’ll be nice to see it in the spring as well. It’s called Les Revenants – the English title is “The Returned” – and there are two seasons. It’s quasi-supernatural but so well done – far from the typical zombie shoot. Just beware of the American remake lurking about which is nowhere near as good! Lyon is a lovely city – I’m always struck by just how walkable it is for a big city (though many of my colleagues gawp when I say I walk everywhere) and the colours are gorgeous, especially in Vieux Lyon and the Croix-Rousse.
you actually took a picture of my home in Geneva from far away across the Jet d’ Eau 😉
Beautiful Annecy!
Haha, really?! It must be so lovely living in such a beautiful part of the world!
The place is so gorgeous! The pictures are beautiful!
You are right it is such a beautiful place! Thanks!
